Good links

A short, but insightful graduation speech.

A longer and insightful discussion of wealth and how different views of where it comes from can affect the words we use.

From the first:

4. Everyone responds to incentives, including people you want to help. That is why social safety nets don’t always end up working as intended.

From the second:

Europeans and Americans “claimed” a higher portion of global output only because they produced a higher portion of global output!  What these Europeans and Americans “claimed” simply would not have existed had they not produced it.

  1. “When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.”

    Frederic Bastiat

  2. Why is it that the progressives label as evil and unfair the wealth gap between the West and others (those that amount to slave nations) yet they have no problem with Shaq earning millions? Certainly a very large factor of Shaq’s basketball fortunes versus mine ($0) is simply due to his size – something that he did virtually nothing to achieve.

  3. Didin’t know where to put this:

    If this:

is OK and the drivers don’t get penalized by the courts, the why is this:

    http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/court-holds-that-wedding-photographer-cannot-refuse-service-to-gay-couples/

    not OK? Or this:

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/12/12/Christian-Baker-Willing-to-Go-to-Jail-for-Declining-Gay-Wedding-Cake

    Or this?

Our courts have bastardized the meaning of private versus public property and hence private property rights. Our nations founders NEVER envisioned that having an establishment where one served the general public or the public in general would turn one’s private property into public property and nullify one’s property rights.

I will be really interested to see the outcome of the Muslim’s refusal to offer their services because of what the court has labeled unlawful discrimination!
