Drivers (not) wanted

If I were a bus driver, trash truck driver, over-the-road trucker, taxi driver or driver of any sort, I might be concerned about the developments taking place with Google’s self-driving initiative.

Maybe Papa John’s will have a pizza deliver vehicle that looks like a vending machine on wheels.  Order a pizza, Papa John’s makes, puts it in a slot and the pizza delivery vehicle brings it to you.  You pay with a credit card and the door with your pizza opens.

Maybe driver-less buses are will be here soon.  Or maybe buses will be replaced with smaller, 4 – 10 passenger vehicles that will take you right to your destination or another station.

What I think is interesting about this idea is that it could accomplish much of what supporters of massive public transit projects want to accomplish, by using the existing infrastructure — I think.
