Random Thoughts

It strikes me as odd that people who believe government spending on infrastructure is good because it stimulates the economy (e.g. creates jobs for workers and encourages more efficient travel and shipping of goods with more road capacity) often are the same people who want to tax the same economic activity they sought to stimulate because they perceive that activity to have negative externalities like pollution and global warming.

It also strikes me as odd that the people who support socializing medicine because they believe everyone has a right to free medical treatment, seem to be the first people to assert that since they now help shoulder the burden for our medical costs they have a right to tell the rest of us how to live in order to minimize those costs.

In both cases, I can assure you that such people haven’t given much consideration that they may be wrong or that their thinking is somewhat paradoxical.

  1. They won’t ever realize that their logic isn’t logical. It’s never about any ideals other than power. They want power, they just use good sounding rhetoric to hide their true feelings. Hell do a Google search for trueliberalnexus blog and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

    • Thanks for the link. I’ll take a look.

I agree. Some are ill-intentioned. I see that on all sides. But, I do have hope for some. I know many, who like me, was liberal because I just hadn’t given a heck of a lot of thought to how things work. I credit a few patient people for poking holes in my logic.

  2. We are on the same boat there. I was liberal then I hit smack dab into that vaunted “liberal tolerance” since some of my views weren’t 100% lockstep inline with everyone else. I think what amazes me now, is how most on the Left think they are so so smart, yet they have the great habit of falling for what ever line some nice sounding politician tells them. That doesn’t make them smart, it makes them lemmings. The sad thing is that they don’t know it, or if they ever find out, their egos won’t allow them to admit it and break free. Of course there are people that do, on the margin.
