Speculation Your Honor

In the article entitled Health Care Overhaul Spawns Mass Confusion for Public, reporter Margaret Talev writes about people who are showing up and asking about free health care or affordable health care.

In her fourth paragraph she offers an editorial explaining the confusion:

That widespread misconception may have originated in part from distorted rhetoric about the legislation bubbling up from the hyper-partisan debate about it in Washington and some media outlets, such as when opponents denounced it as socialism.

Does this belong in a news story?  This isn’t merely reporting the news.  This is commentary.

And it’s bad, one-side commentary at that.

Is it possible that the confusion was caused by the “distorted rhetoric” from supporters of health care legislation selling this as something necessary to bring costs under control and give everyone access to affordable care?
